Tusche Costa
Residing in the Midlands, Tusche Costa has been making waves for himself with two quality FREE download mixtapes with the prolific DJ Ames. His next mixtape is receiving good attention and now a few radio stations have started to support things are bubbling for Tusche. We sent our resident UK Hp-Hop enthusiast Jonathan Miles to find out more.
Easy bruv, hope you are good. How’s life right about now?
Much respect bro' im good staying focused and humble always on my grind behind scenes trying to be creative.
Where did you get the name Tusche Costa from?
My dad, Our family name is De Costa before he became a Muslim when i was a child.
So the mixtape, let’s talk on that for a second. Who was involved in making it, how long did it take to make, and what are your favourite tracks?
Nedos at Second City Productions was a big help, Also E Dot Spencer from Columbus Ohio ( USA ) and BeatBusta from Toronto ( Canada ) also Urban Monk and of course DJ Ames! There are also others' i have respect for all these talented people and I am most grateful. My favorite tracks havent been made yet there in my head waiting to be laced down in the booth next time im in the studio for my next album. Although im happy with Hip Hop Pilgrim.
Why did you decide to do mixtapes rather then jus dropping an album?
To be honost not many people would know who i was so i thought it wouldn't make sense to make a full album just yet.
Most of the music industry and the media in the UK are based in London, so do you see living in Birmingham as a disadvantage when making music?
I'm new on the scene so there is somebody who can answer this question better than myself for sure although it has been known in the past.
Do you think that there is still a stigma attached to artists from outside of London?
I mean the majors have signed people like Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder and N-Dubz, but they are all from down south. As above although what i would say is there is some incredilble talent here in the Midlands also up and down the UK. Im ambitious although under no illusions, I dont make make music for fame. Hip Hop wasn't made for fame in the begining if other artists are making money i salute them for sure as many come from tough backgrounds like myself and some have been in right place at right time like you have mentioned above and some have put the work in. Always good to see somebody do well i havent got that crabs in a bucket pull each other down mentality that i see all to often. One thing that i would say to an artist younger than me is im just a street dude hustling for most this year not much cash but im going to feature on a track with Outlawz if somebody like me could do that i'd imagine you could do twice as good if you put your mind to it. if you were born not not make it think to yourself f**k it ill get there by myself real talk.
How do you see the UK scene at the moment, please weigh up the pros and cons for us!
As I said before i'm new on scene although im a fan of music also and i've heard amongst the rubbish lol' a lot of talented people. Most pop for a minute then the game gets rid of them. I can honestly say ive heard people who should be signed to Def Jam or something.
It’s mad to find out that Urban Monk is your cousin! That’s crazy, ever thought of doing an album together?
Yeah cuzzy's a genious in my opinion when its time for a full album his tracks will feature heavily!
So what’s next for you release wise and do you plan to drop a video soon?
I'm going to drop one more mixtape maybe end of this year or early next year because I want more quality as i have seen a lot of mistakes in my last one, I have a few suprises for it. And also follow it up with a video hopefully.
Before you go give us all your website details and good look for the future.
Nuff respect and success to HHBRADIO most appreciated.
