Supar Novar
If you haven't heard of Supar Novar then you are seriously missing out! He is DEEP in the game and definately worth checking. We sent Johnathan Miles along to see what he has been up to and what he likes to to in his spare time when hes not busy on the grind making music. So for those don’t know tell us who you are and what you would consider to be your achievements in the music industry so far?
I’m Supar Novar from the collective known as F.L.I.P formally from The Mud Family. I’m a rapper, a father and a person who I would like to say tries to live my life as righteously as possible. My biggest achievement with the music so far I feel is completing my debut album, I put my heart and soul into it and I think as a piece of music it’s my biggest accomplishment, I could say winning the award or performing at Glastonbury or any of the other big shows I’ve done but I’d just say that piece of music.
What would you has been your biggest track so far to date and does it have a music video on You Tube?
My biggest track definitely hasn’t been heard yet, it will definitely be on the new album, so far some people would say ‘Tomorrow’ which has a video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFeZKfnrwlY) but I reckon I’d say ‘Reppin’ which is up there as well (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXgeKw3MRHE&feature=player_profilepage)
Who produces your music and what record label are you on?
Most of my music these days is either produced by myself or Show N Prove, I am also working with Rudi Redz, Felix and Unique who are all my people. I have worked with Joe Buddha, C.Swing, DJ Noize, First Man, DJ Flip and many more in the past but these days I kinda just keep t in the fam. As for a record label I ain’t on one at the moment, I’m finishing up my album then I’m gonna start approaching them, I got a few interested already but yeah, the albums gonna be crazy I got singles on it featuring Neon Hitch and N-Dubz plus some other big features so real talk labels holla while you can.
What are your thoughts on digital distribution? Is MP3 really the way forward?
I suppose it’s the only choice we have but really I think we need to come to terms with the fact that all our music is going to be available for free and we need to start finding other ways to make money from the business. I’m about to hit the game with a load of free mixtapes and just get the buzz going cos basically that’s where were at right now and as artists we gotta adapt to the state of the industry.
Have you had much radio support and mixtape features? If so, what DJ’s are supporting you?
Yeah I had alot of support from alot of people, it’s hard to mention them all but I’d say Itch FM were huge supporters of my music and really gave me the push that I needed to get me where I am now, DJ MK has always been a big supporter as well as Excalibur when he was on 1xtra, HHB Radio, there’s so many man, on the mixtape circuit obviously Tricksta, he’s been a huge supporter for a long time now in many ways, through mixtapes, radio and just generally pushing me, I got alot of love for that guy there.
What subject matters and concepts do you cover in your songs?
I talk about things that are personal to me and sometimes it alienates people from my music cos they don’t relate to it but at the end of the day, I make music from the heart and I can only speak about the things I know and the way I’m living. I hope that people can listen to my music and understand a little bit about the person I am and understand how I feel whether they agree with me or not they should be able to respect the honesty.
Tell us about your latest release.
The latest release is a free download mixtape called ‘N To Tha IZZO’, it’s the first in a series of mixtapes I’m doing called ‘Dubplate Sagas’ were I’m gonna record a whole CD over one artists instrumentals, so the first one is Jay-Z, I’m gonna do Nas next, then you’ll have to wait and see after that.
Outside of music how do relax? What other things are you into doing?
Yo, outside of music I don’t get much time to relax, real talk. My life outside of music is stressful alot of the time, getting in the studio and record is my time to relax mostly. Otherwise I just like to be around my peoples, get drunk and make the most of my time with my chin up, I like to spend time with my family as much as I can, being with my girl and my daughter I suppose is the best times.
What can people expect to hear from you in the near future?
A new Supar Novar album, an F.L.I.P album plus a load of free mixtapes, I been putting in mad work preparing to flood the game with product, so your gonna be hearing alot from me in the very near future.
Where’s the best place to buy your music?
From me, real talk, I don’t know where else right now cos I’m still working out distribution for the next album but I got music on iTunes and all them places as well. For now tho, I’m giving music away for free, go to http://www.explosivemuzik.com, cop the ‘N To Tha IZZO’ mixtape and keep watching for the next shit, I drop free tracks on there all the time.
